Reminder: Cradles to Crayons Donations

Outfit-Pack-Contents-new_0It’s Spring Greening season. Time to clean out the closets and recycle for a good cause.

All this week, Shamona Creek has been collecting items for Cradles to Crayons. The collection ends tomorrow, April 15. Please drop off new or gently used kids’ clothing, coats, and shoes. The items most needed are winter clothing, winter coats, sneakers, winter boots, winter hats, gloves, mittens, new socks and new underwear.

Your donation of new and like-new children’s items will support Cradles to Crayons’ efforts to provide children living in homeless or low-income situations with the essentials they need to thrive. Cradles to Crayons supplies these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need.

The Countdown to the Spring Fair: Helpers, Tickets, Food and Used Books

Of all the family events that take place at the school, the Spring Fair is by far the event that the kids look forward to the most. It’s full of fun, games, prizes and treats. What’s not to love?

volunteerHelpers Needed
The students enjoy the Spring Fair tremendously, and they especially love seeing their teachers and the parents be part of the action. To make the night a success, the SCHSA needs parents to share an hour of their time that night. (We hate to sound desperate, but when you see the list you’ll notice we are seriously short on helpers. This is an event for everyone to get involved.) Please look for your class/assigned game and sign up for an hour. If your class is filled, select another available game and time that works best for your schedule. All help appreciated. Instructions & game room locations will be provided at the Volunteer Check In Table the night of the Fair.

Helping Hands Create Happy Hearts. Help Us Support Local Families in Need.

HelpingHandsGCDrive

The Helping Hands Committee is committed to providing assistance to families in need at Shamona Creek Elementary and the surrounding area with essential items for their household and their children. This program is successful thanks to the support we receive through our Home & School Association, faculty, community groups and families within our school community.

targetgiftcard1border2In addition to Gently Used Clothing Drives, Food Drives, and the 5th Grade Service Project, the committee will be helping Shamona Creek families in need during the holidays with gift cards to Target so that they can purchase items they truly need.

We are looking for monetary donations or Target gift cards to support these families. If you are thinking about making a donation this holiday season, please consider helping those in need right here at Shamona Creek.

We will be collecting the donations now  through December 16. Just send cash, checks made payable to “SCHSA,” or Target gift cards in an envelope with your child to school, addressed to “SCHSA: Helping Hands Gift Card Donations,” Donations can also be dropped off in the school office. Any amount you can contribute will be greatly appreciated!

The gift cards will be distributed during the holidays and throughout the year when families need it.

If you have any questions, please contact Amy Krutsick at ARKruts@gmail.com.

Volunteer Opportunity: Mobile Agricultural Education Science Lab Week

One of the ways the Shamona Creek Home & School Association uses parent donations is to provide assemblies for your children. During the week of November 10-14, your child will visit the Mobile Ag Lab, a science lab housed in an RV!  It will be parked outside of Shamona Creek and all classes will have an opportunity to participate in a hands-on science project.

We need at least one more volunteer to help! Please use the Sign-Up-Genius link to volunteer. Make sure your disclosure form is in the office or you will not be able to volunteer (the form can also be found on the SC homepage in the Backpack section).
We are grateful for all the parents who have signed up already, and thank you in advance to anyone else who is considering donating their time to help make this a success!
We will keep you posted in the weeks ahead about what the kids will experience.

Get Involved: Intro to the Helping Hands Committee

The SCHSA works closely with the staff at Shamona Creek and sometimes a few extra hands are needed to execute an event put on by SCHSA or the teachers themselves.

Making Shamona Creek’s grounds look beautiful is just one way the Helping Hands committee gets involved.

Do you have a helping hand?  A philanthropic heart?  This committee has helped with such things as curb appeal on the school grounds, service projects, a clothing drive, as well as with the annual art show and health screenings.

The Helping Hands committee is currently planning the following events:

  • 5th Grade Service Project
  • Grounds Beautification
  • Lost & Found
  • Used Clothing Drive
  • Wednesday Folders

If you can lend a helping hand and would like to join this committee, please contact Kathleen Nine or Amy Krutsick.

The SCHSA, as a non-profit organization, encourages our families to participate in a number of easy programs offered in the community that give back to our school.  Box Tops for Education and rebate programs supported through various retailers (Giant, Target, etc) are a couple of examples.  We invite you to work with us to continue these simple programs by encouraging our families to participate in an effort to cash in on some of the E-Z money that is out there for our organization to be able to do what we do.

There are so many ways all parents can easily support Shamona Creek. Here are  just a few that we are exploring this year:

Please contact Shannon Gallagher or Melissa Bell to join this team as we continue to provide the strongest community for our students at Shamona Creek.
